Now in its third iteration, the Alienware M17x R3 mainframe continues to be an impressive looker and architect. We go hands-on with this 17.3-inch top-ridge gaming notebook.

The Alienware M17x R3 mainframe is now in its third iteration with the R3 edition. Disparate its predecessors, the R3 has a release graphics card; to get a dual graphics card setup (AMD CrossFireX or Nvidia SLI), you need to step up to the giant 18.4-inch M18x. Still, the Alienware M17x R3 mainframe packs serious weapons as configured. Options contain the vaguely quicker i7-2720QM processor (the i7-2630QM is ordinary), AMD Radeon HD 6970M graphics card with a whopping 2GB of its own reminiscence (a 1GB HD 6870M is ordinary), the upgraded Intel 6300 AGN wireless card, and the 1.5TB RAID 0 hard drive array.
